Thanks for asking (why do I sound like I am on a radio show:)).
Ask yourself why would someone come to my website? Is there info on the site that would be of interest? If not add a blog, update, or something to enter to win (i.e. tasty content) and post the web address of this information to your Twitter, Facebook or other Social Media site, where people can see it. Don’t beg folks, just post the facts and if people are interested they will check out the link.
All great content needs to have a great title, eye catching picture, be fairly brief and please deliver on the adjective “good” information at least. Make sure that on the side bar of your interesting post there is a way people can contact you and also interact with other material you have to offer.

I don’t know what line of work you are in, but most folks google or yahoo for info all the time. To fuel your SEO, Search Engine Optimization, make sure key words of what people would use to search for what is on your website are used on your website and that it is meta tagged properly. You can do this yourself.
Make sure you have share and like buttons on your site so people can share your information easily and perhaps get people in their network to visit the site. Also try visiting other people’s sites and if their info is interesting share it. Often these people will return the favor and share post that is on your site.
Lastly if you are an engaging person, people love to find out more about you. They will check out your website just to see what you are about. So be social on social media:)
This is all the “don’t pay any money” stuff I can think of at this time. Always remember FREE is not cheap. Your time and energy are valuable. It may take some of that to get people flocking to your website.
